Founded in 1850 by John S. & Joshua Schofield to manufacture Steam Locomotive Bearing Box Brasses. Joshua joined the Confederate Army during the U. S. Civil War and later died from his wounds. His son, A. D. Schofield became a partner after his father's death. The amount and variety of goods produced by this foundry was immense.
      John Shepley Schofield died in 1981. The firm went bankrupt in 1933 and the property was sold at auction to the Taylor Iron Works & Supply Co.
