Since 1888, when it was founded by Frank McDonough. This company made band sawmills and resaws. They also made toolroom grinders under the Sterling brand. The grinder first appeared in ads in 1916 by Young, Corley & Dolan, Inc. of New York City, presenting them as made by the latter. By 1919, ads stated they were made by McDonough, represented by Young, Corley & Dolan.

Information Sources

  • Ad in 1955-56 Hitchcock's Wood Worker's Digest Directory, which says this company is the "world's largest producer of band resaws."
  • The U. S. Forest Products Laboratory published a booklet dated March 1936, Operating small sawmills, methods, bibliography, and sources of equipment by C. J. Telford. A table lists the makers of various types of equipment, including circular sawmills, band sawmills, edgers, and planers. This company was listed as a maker of band sawmills.
