Improvements Connected With Pads Used on Reciprocating Cutter Bar Type Mowing Machines
|
Francis J. Bretherton |
, England |
Abstract:
The knives 8 of a reciprocating cutter-bar type of mowing machine are urged into contact with the fingers 12 by pads 7 each hinged to a bracket 1 secured to the cutter bar 2 and each urged downwards against a knife by a spring 9, which also serves to hold the arm raised when the arm is moved to the raised position. The spring 9 shown acts on the pad through the medium of a ball 10 which by engaging with a projection 7b of the pad holds the latter in either its raised or lowered position. |

Improvements Relating to Starting Mechanism for Internal Combustion Engines
|
Albert E. Hewett |
, England |
Abstract:
An internal-combustion engine starting mechanism comprises a movable rack 3 which is mounted to engage a pinion 7 on the crankshaft of the engine so as to be freely rotatable in one direction only and resilient means such as a spring 10 which is secured to the rack and effective to exert on the rack an auxiliary pull to that exerted by the operator in starting the engine. The pinion 7 has a pawl-and-ratchet mechanism. The rack slides in brackets 5 and 8 mounted on the crankcase, and the spring is mounted in lugs 9, 11 which are secured to the bracket 8 and the rack respectively. |
