Information Sources

  • Thanks to Mike Belovsky, who reported a 1906 Singer Model 66 sewing machine with a motor from Electric Motor Corp. The motor appears to be original to the machine.
  • From the 1959 lawsuit Howard Industries v. Rae Motor Corporation, page 15; in the lawsuit, Howard Industries alleged that Rae's motors were "confusingly similar in appearance" to their own.
Plaintiff is a leading, if not the dominant factor in the fractional horsepower motor field. The existing capacity of plaintiff to manufacture the type of motors housed in this type of casing which is the subject of this action is between 400% and 500% in excess of plaintiff's actual production and sales. A substantial portion of plaintiff's growth and expansion has resulted from the purchase and acquisition of other concerns: Electric Motor Corporation (1945); Cyclohm Motor Corporation (1948); Racine Electric Products Co. (1950); Universal Motor Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. (1957); Fairchild line of precision-type motors from McGraw Edison Co. (1958); Induction Motors line of Westinghouse Electric Corp. (1958); Lloyd Scruggs Company of Festus, Missouri (1958).
