The W. H. Field Company was established in 1880, a successor to machinery seller W. F. Field & Son. Wm. H. Field Co. put their name on the machines they sold, either instead of or in addition to the maker's name.

- We have seen a cast plaque from 1880s Boston machinery maker Suffolk Machine Co. that indicates, "W. F. Field, Agents".
- A 1919 issue of The Iron Age has the following snippet:
...at the William H. Field Co. plant in Boston. Mr. Field was born in Waltham, Mass., June 26, 1858, the son of William F. Field, who established the wood-working machinery business later carried on by his son.
- A 1929 letter from L. Power & Co. offers their new horizontal sliding-spindle boring machine for Field's consideration.
- A 15" jointer labeled as "WILLIAM H. FIELD CO. / FIELDBUILT / BOSTON". Another machine with a FIELD BUILT" badge actually has a very small "RE" in between "FIELD" and "BUILT".
