      Founded in 1880 by William Woodnut Griscom, the firm went bankrupt in 1892 and was bailed out by Isaas Rice. The firm made main propulsion motors and generators for the U. S. Navy submarines. In 1899, Rice founded the Electric Boat Co. and made Electro-Dynamic a subsidiary. The firm then moved to Avenel, NJ. The company was dissolved in 2000 aand it's operations were moved to Electric Boat's main facility in Groton, CT.
