Founded in 1889 to build large steam operated water pumps. The firm began manufacturing gas engine driven compressors that were designed by the National Transit Co. in 1901. The company consolidated with the Holly Mfg. Co. from Lockport, NY, which became part of the International Steam Pump Co. By 1912 the firm was manufacturing Diesel Engines. In 1916, the company was reorganized as the Worthington Pump and Machinery Corp.
