Wrench
|
Edward J. Worcester |
Worcester, MA |
The adjustable jaw is at right angles to the shank. A knurled exterior threaded nut engages a rack on the movable jaw to make the adjustment. According to Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" Hood & Perkins, Worcester, MA used this patent for an "S" handle adjustable wrench marketed in 1866. The same "S" handle has been found marked "Greene Rifle Works," where Mr. Hood was superintendent by 1867.
Henry Richards patented an "improvement" to this wrench in February, 1877 (pat. no. 186,954). |

Albert F. Prentice |
Worcester, MA |
The assignees constituted A. F. Prentice & Co., so presumably they sold this drill to E. N. Boynton. It is likely that A. F. Prentice & Co. manufactured this drill, and also likely that Boynton & Plummer did also. |
