Named for inventor and businessman David Lennox, the Lennox Machine Co. made both stationary and portable gas engines as well as metal shears. The company suffered a destructive fire on June 25, 1911, and had ongoing labor problems in that decade. The company incorporated as Lennox Throatless Shear Co. on Sept. 10, 1913, and included the Lennox brothers and Jesse C. and Lester E. Williams, owners of Marshalltown Trowel Co. In Junary 1919 the company changed its name to Marshalltown Manufacturing Co. See that entry for the subsequent history.
