Founded in 1840 as Fuller & Williams, this firm bought the Madison Plow Works in 1880 and incorporated as the Fuller & Johnson Co. in 1882. The first gas engines were built in 1900-1903, by the Gisholt Machine Co. which was also owned by John A. Johnson.
