In 1860 Matthews & Moore—a partnership of William Matthews and James Moore—were operating the Bush Hill Iron Works and were manufacturing high and low pressure steam engines, saw mills, forging hammers & rolling mills, among other items. By 1873 the operator was James Moore, "successors to Matthews & Moore". In 1895 the Bush Hill Iron Works were reorganized as the Philadelphia Roll & Machine Works.
