Patent Number Date Title Name City Description
138,161 Apr. 22, 1873 Pipe-Tongs Albert H. Jarecki Erie, PA The main feature of the Jarecki tongs is the adjustable "tooth" which has compound teeth on one end and a single sharp spur on the other.
171,999 Jan. 11, 1876 Pipe-Wrench William Crumbie Rouseville, PA This improvement on William C. Abbe's Aug. 20, 167 patent (no. 67,937) has smooth jaw faces with a single adjustable "tooth." A sliding latch prevents the jaws from swinging far enough to disengage.
"Crumbie's Tongs" appear in an 1892 Oil Well Supply Company catalog, and some known examples without the sliding latch have "O. W. S. Co." forged in the head parts. The design also appears marked NORRIS BROTHERS / ROBINSON, ILLINOIS and JARECKI MFG. CO. [Erie, PA] (with the patent date).

Jarecki tongs were produced well into the 20th Century.
