Thomas Robinson & Son was established in Rochdale, Lancashire, in 1838 as timber merchants, joiners and carpenters. Thomas Robinson & Son became a private limited company in 1880, changing the name to Thomas Robinson & Son Limited. The firm became a respected maker of gas engines, saw mills, woodworking machinery, flour milling machinery, and railway locomotives & carriages. Complete sets of machinery designed and arranged for contractors, ship builders, carriage and wagon works, saw mills, planing and moulding mills, railway companies, Government arsenals and dock yards.
