Founded in 1837 by Walton Turner and two partners as Bond, Turner and Hurwood, the firm manufactured its first steam engine in 1842. After the death of Walton Turner in 1847, his son Edward Rush Turner took over the firm and reorganized he company as Edward Turner, Rush and Co. They produced their first portable stem engine in 1849. About 1850,Edward Turner bought out his partners and renamed the firm, E. R. & F. Turner.By 1865 they had introduced their first steam traction engine>
