The firm was founded in 1890 by Abraham Vanderbeek and reorganized as the Vanderbeek Tool Works in 1898. After Vanderbeek's death May 9, 1917, the firm was succeeded by Ainslie Machine & Tool Works, owned by William Ainslie, also of Hartford.
