The Ball Engine Co.was founded in 1881 and incorporated on 1883 by W. H. Nicholson and Frank H. Ball. The firm eventually became the Erie Steam Shovel Co. Its engine business was taken over by Erie Ball Engine Co. of Pittsburgh i 1920.
