According to the current Davis & Wells web site, Davis & Wells machinery was manufactured between 1935 and 1983. A 12" tablesaw, circa 1940 is labeled "Davis & Wells / Los Angeles."

That Davis & Wells web site takes you to the current, Lynwood-based incarnation, which is really a repairer-reseller of Davis & Wells and other brands of woodworking machinery. We have seen a later model of Davis & Wells machine, a shaper, where the fine print on the label says, "Made in Shenyang Machine Works China". Machines made in Asia are not covered by this Vintage Machinery website so we can provide no further information on this era of Davis & Wells machine.

  • Ad in 1950 Woodworking & Furniture Digest, volume 52 issue 52, page 28. "Here is a top rated ball bearing belt sander by Davis & Wells, priced very low in relation to its many excellent features. This sander takes a 6” wide belt. Ball bearings are sealed in lubrication. Table assembly floats on ball bearing rollers, has full adjustment range for flat sanding under belt. To fit your needs a variety of table sizes are available. The point is, this Davis & Wells Belt Sander is a low cost investment for your shop, with a high-grade return. Another fine, new member in the famous Davis & Wells line of woodworking machinery. Full details in free literature sent on request." Unfortunately the Google Books "Snippet View" prevents us from seeing the bottom of the ad where the full company name and address are given.
  • By 2022 the Davis & Wells website was offline. Past incarnations of the website can be explored via archive.org's repository of davisandwells.com.
