The Lombard steam log hauler was built by Alvin Orlando Lombard in Waterville, Maine. Between 1901 and 1917, 83 steam log haulers were built to be used in the logging industry to pull sleds piled with logs. The hauler was driven with a set of tracks and was steered using skis on the front of the machine. A man would sit on the front of the machine ahead of the boiler and steer the hauler.
