In 1881, Wight & Powell was reorganized as A. M. Powell & Co., a partnership between Albert M. Powell and George Carter. In 1884, the firm was purchased by George W. Fifield and reorganized as the Powell Machine Tool Co., which, in 1886, was absorbed by the Pond Machine Tool Co.
All of the above firms manufactured metal-working machinery, including lathes and planers.
After selling his interested in this firm, Albert M. Powell went on to establish Powell Planer Co. in 1887.
