Formed around 1896 as the Iowa Dairy Separator Company, which made a hand operated cream separator. The early company was very successful and grew rapidity, eventually reorganizing in 1910 as Associated Manufacturers Co. The company merged with a gas engine manufacturer, Sherman & Smith Co. of Independence, IA. Over the years, the company made many different size gas engines.
Wilbur W. Marsh and Theodore C. Menges were the principals of the Associated Manufacturers Co.
In 1946, Associated Manufacturers Co. was sold to the Hamilton Engineering Company of Chicago, IL.
