Formed around 1896 as the Iowa Dairy Separator Company, which made a hand operated cream separator. The early company was very successful and grew rapidity, eventually reorganizing in 1910 as Associated Manufacturers Co. Over the years, the company made many different size gas engines.

In 1946, Associated Manufacturers was sold to the Hamilton Engineering Company of Chicago, IL.
