This obscure local maker is notable because the (so far as we know) oldest surviving American bandsaw was made by them. The saw has a wooden frame and claims to use the 1861 Sullenberger bandsaw patent.

Information Sources

  • Reported: bandsaw with 1861-03-19 patent date, Sullenberger's patent (31768).
  • We first learned of the saw in question via an email from the owner. That, and subsequent events, are discussed in an owwm.org forum thread.
  • The Valley Spirit newspaper of May 2, 1866, mentions Eyster & Stouffer in a long list of those who suffered losses in the burning of the town of Chambersburg by the Confederates.
