Manufactured Portable (ca 1870's) and Stationary Steam Engines.

The 10hp Payne steam portable engine was built by the B.W. Payne & Sons Co. of Corning, NY. This engine sold for $750. The 8hp sold for $650. This engines boiler had no flat surfaces requiring staves, which were not only expensive, but uncertain, for many causes. It had the form of a cylinder for a shell and fire box - the oldest, strongest, and safest boiler known. The engine was supplied with a patent automatic cut-off, which was attached directly to a balanced piston valve, and worked without friction.
