Wade Machine Co. was established in 1872 and incorporated in 1906, with Walter H. Wade as president and treasurer. The firm did general machine shop work, with punches and dies a specialty, at 817 Albany Ave., Boston. By 1914 a second firm was also operating for the punch and die work, Walter H. Wade or W. H. Wade, 311 Atlantic Ave., Boston, MA. By June 1918, Walter H. Wade was manufacturing an 8-inch toolmakers' precision lathe. After the acquisition of the American Watch Tool Co.'s line of larger lathes, Walter H. Wade renamed itself to the Wade-American Tool Co., successor to W. H. Wade. In mid-1925 the name changed to the Wade Tool Co.
