In 1879, Robert Walker was apparently making a metal-working drill press. Robert Walker, a Yorkville blacksmith, was granted an 1871 patent for a drill press of novel design.

Information Sources

The Authorized Catalogue of the First Annual Exhibition of the Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition Association of Toronto, held in September 1879, lists, under "Drilling Machine, Medium": "R. Walker, Yorkville, York [County]." Yorkville was a village that was annexed by Toronto in 1883.
