The Northwestern Bas and Water Pipe Co. and the Michigan Pipe Co., both of Bay City, MI, also manufactured Wyckoff pipes.

RE404 Oct. 14, 1856 Improved Boring-Machine E. R. Morrison Elmira, NY Purpose of the reissue appears to be the assignment of the entire patent to Wyckoff.
The _Scientific American_ wrote about this patent in February of 1857: "... It consists of a hollow tube or auger having cutters at its extreme end. Within the tube is a rod furnished with an auger-shaped screw. The cutters on the tube effect the boring, while the auger rod extracts the chips. The parts named move in different directions. The machine bores at the rate of ten feet per minute, and with an accuracy that is truly wonderful. ..."
A petition for an extension of this patent was filed February 19, 1869. The extension was granted during the week ending October 5, 1869.

18,872 Dec. 15, 1857 Boring Machine La Fayette Stevens Elmira, NY The Chemung Valley History Museum has in its collection a document, "Letters of Assignment granting Arcalous Wyckoff rights to the boring-machine improvement invented by LaFayette Stevens, September 22, 1868."
24,773 Jul. 12, 1859 Hollow Auger Arcalous Wyckoff Elmira, NY The aperture in the cutter is slightly elliptical, with the primary cutters (a) placed at the smaller dimension. The core-piece, therefore, is slightly smaller in diameter than the inside of the tubing body, reducing friction. Also, there are secondary cutters (d) just behind the primary cutters, which make shear cuts on a tangent to the core, with the aim of smoothing the core's surfaces and further reducing friction.

31,694 Mar. 12, 1861 Hollow Auger Arcalous Wyckoff Elmira, NY The primary goal of this patent is to avoid some of the difficulties of heat treating the cutters, especially for hollow augers of larger diameters. The cutters are formed to the appropriate diameter, then segmented for the heat treating processes. The number of segments depending on the diameter. They are set in an iron ring/base, being secured by a "tongue-and-groove" arrangement as well as set-screws. Though slightly modified, the cutters' edges are to be substantially as found in Wyckoff's earlier patent 24773.

53,722 Apr. 03, 1866 Improvement in Hollow Augers Arcalous Wyckoff Elmira, NY This patent is an attempt to address the issue of chips, or shavings, feeding up the spirals quickly and freely. Though the inventor doesn't specify Nye and Haviland's patent (28,400), he makes it clear that their approach left wedge-shaped shavings and the thin portions tended to compact and jam in the spirals. He aims to avoid this problem by having each cutter cut shavings/chips which are thick, but only half the width.
