We have a report of a tablesaw that has this name on a metal tag. It is not certain whether Brownell was the maker or the retailer.
Information Sources
- Information on the tablesaw came from an email correspondent.
- A search of DATAMP patent records turns up an Emerson P. Brownell of Providence, RI, who received several patents for spool-making machinery in the early 1870s. He received an 1889 spool-machine patent that listed his address as Beebe Plain, QC. He also received a 1900 spool-machine patent, with an address of Barton, VT.
- Rich McGowen reports a postcard, postmarked 1912, that pictures the Providence, RI, post office; in the background is visible a building with a sign that says, "Brownell Machinery Co."
