Information Sources

  • Thanks to Brian Kachadurian for drawing our attention to an eBay auction of a Brede-Bilt grinder.
  • A patent search revealed a 1945 patent for a plastic bag that was co-invented by a William Brede and assigned to Brede, Inc., of Minneapolis. Any connection to Brede-Bilt is purely speculative.
  • Snippet from a 1966 Hardware Age: "Brede-Bilt — See Brede Inc Brede Inc 1720 New Brighton Blvd Minneapolis Minn 55413". The company was listed as providers of sickle and mower knife grinders, hobby horse racking, and baby walkers.
  • A 1969 Industrial Marketing lists "Brede Inc., 2211 Broadway, N.E., Minneapolis 55413".
  • We found mentions of an unrelated business called "Brede, Inc." Based in Detroit, this Brede, Inc., was packing horse radish during World War II. Another company of the same name, operating Chicago, was "engaged generally in supply decorator labor to trade show and convention promotors..." This is apparently the same company as the Minneapolis-based Brede, Inc.: a 1982 volume of Greater Minneapolis lists Brede, Inc., of that city for your convention decorating needs. The contact was John Reibold; one John L. Reibold was a co-inventor on a 1945 patent assigned to Brede, Inc. of Minneapolis.
