This little-known company made foot powered machinery including wood lathes. "Brown" was probably George W. Brown, who received an 1877 patent for a ratchet foot-power mechanism for machinery including "saws, lathes, emery-wheels, &c." Much less certain is the identity of "Bradford". Horace C. Bradford of Providence received an 1873 patent for a crank movement; the machine shown in the patent drawing is a small metal planer.
