A threshing machine from this maker was seen at the 2005 Carp Fall Fair. The painted labeling on the side of the mill listed the products made, including "sawing machines".

- An online history of Brandon, Manitoba mentions that a James Shiriff was born in Huntingdon, QC, in 1851, apprenticed as an agricultural woodworker, and managed Boyd & Co. from 1875 through 1880.
- A RootsWeb page, "Extracts from the New Dominion newspaper" summarizes an 1885-02-05 article stating that James Shiriff was leaving: "for several years past foreman for Boyd & Co. in their extensive wooden manufactury. We understand he contemplates seeking his fortune in the far West." The previous source reported that he went to Brandon, Manitoba.
