R. H. Garrigues was a notary public, attorney, and justice of the peace. He also ran this firm, which was a foundry and maker of steam engines and sawmills. It seems that he was patent attorney for the various related Salem companies involving Dole, Silver, Deming, etc. The combination of manufacturer and attorney is unsual, but not unheard of: John Richards was another Ohio manufacturer and patent attorney.

The name William H. Garrigues appears on a few of those patents: perhaps William was one of the sons.

This firm was in business between 1860 and 1874, and probably both before and after that time. Their manufacture of sawmills was not mentioned in an 1860 reference, but was mentioned in an 1874 reference.
