This drill press maker is known from an entry in the 1874 work, Wiley's American iron trade manual of the leading iron industries of the United States: "M. M. Ammidown - Drill press machinery and machine tools."

An 1865 Boston city directory has the following listing: "Ammidown Marcus M machinist, 4 Charlestown, boards 209 Cambridge" An 1860 directory did not have a listing for an M. Ammidown.
