From the late 1830s through to at least the mid-1840s, Wandle Mace made a patented post-mortising and rail-sharpening machine.

The Rutgers University library has a copy of a woodcut advertisement, "Wandle Mace's patent post morticing and rail sharpening machine", dated 1845.
Mace received an 1837 patent for his post mortising machine.
