Miter-cutting machine
|
Willis J. Perkins |
Grand Rapids, MI |
(Information here—and for other universal trimmers—is courtesy of Jeffrey S. McVey.) This universal trimmer was purportedly designed by Joseph A. Oliver, who had briefly worked for Fox Machine Co. Perkins and Oliver formed Grand Rapids Machinery Co. to make this trimmer, but Fox filed suit and Perkins sold his share to Oliver (in 1890). In 1892 Oliver started American Machinery Co., but continued Grand Rapids Machinery Co. until 1903, when he combined the two companies and name the result Oliver Machinery Co. We have a report of a trimmer labeled "W.J.PERKINS PAT.APR.7.91.U.S.A.ENG&GER Manufactured by Perkins & Co Grand Rapids Michigan USA". |
