In 1947, George Mooradian of Los Angeles received a patent for a radial arm saw of distinctive design. We have several sightings of this design in the wild. One such machine was labeled as Montgomery Ward Powr-Kraft.

Information Sources

  • The Mooradian saw was spotted in a 1958 Montgomery Ward Powr-Kraft catalog.
  • A 1948 catalog for Haven Saw and Tool in San Francisco shows several Mooradian products:
    • No. 800 Portable sander sets (7" drums for making various types of sanders.)
    • No.850 Belt and Disk sander unit (12" disk, 6x53" belt.)
    • The Swing Cut-off Saw - takes 8-12" blade
    • Mooradian Tilt Arbor Saw - weighing in at 200 lbs, this featured a cast aluminum top, a 3/4" arbor with capacity for a 12" blade, and a 10 gauge steel stand.
  • The March 1990 issue of Fine Woodworking magazine had an article on building your own spindle shaper. Their design used a spindle from Mooradian Manufacturing Co.
  • Search for Mooradian in the owwm discussion forum. For instance, Mike Levine provided the information on the 1948 Haven catalog.
