In 1860, the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association's exhibition awarded a medal to J. A. Peabody for his blind mortising machine. The 1869-05-08 issue of Scientific American carried a notice that Peabody had applied for an extension of his patent. The 1869-08-14 issue carried a notice that the application had been granted. By that time, Peabody was living in Philadelphia. |
