This manufacturer of barrel-making machinery was active in the late 1850s, and possibly before and after that time also.

Information Sources

  • From 1858 ads in Scientific American:
STAVE MACHINE - We challenge the world to equal us. Sloane's Patent Stave Machine will dress more staves at thh same cost than any other machine, and is adapted to all kinds of staves. Sloane's Chamfering and Crosing [Crozing] machine will work off 15,000 staves in ten hours. Manning's Heading Machine will turn out heads for 500 barrels per day. For particulars, address SLOANE & Co., Buffalo, N. Y.
  • The 1860-02-04 issue of Scientific Americancarried a front-page article on Wilsie Manning's patented barrel-head cutter. This appears to be the same machine that Sloane & Co. had been selling less than two years before. The 1860 article advises those interested to contact W. Manning & Co. of Rochester, NY.
