Abstract:

The head of the boring bar of a boring tool has a recess flanked by two toothed internal surfaces which extend forwardly and outwardly with respect to the axis of the bar and face each other. The bit carriers have toothed surfaces which engage the respective internal surfaces and are clamped against such internal surfaces by screws whose shanks extend into tapped bores of the head. The axes of the tapped bores make an acute angle or are parallel with the axis of the bar, depending on the diameter of the bar. Each carrier has an elongated slot for the shank of the respective clamping screw, and each carrier can be shifted lengthwise of the respective teeth by a discrete adjusting screw which meshes with the bar.

The coordinate slides of a peripheral device for machine tools, are guided in a guide and are manually advanced for purposes of coarse adjustment. For purposes of fine adjustment, each coordinate slide can be coupled with an associated fine-adjustment pinion gear by means of non-positive clamps. The clamps, positioned on the slide, are often capable of being activated only with a lot of grouping around on the part of the operator making the adjustment. In the peripheral equipment in accordance with the invention every clamping element is electrically activated so that the activating switch can be positioned convenient to reach next to the activating member of the fine-adjustment pinion gear. Adjusting the equipment is accordingly essentially facilitated.

A tool and workpiece arrangement for material-removing machining includes a primary holder and a replaceable secondary holder which is mounted on the primary holder, and which carries a tool or a workpiece. The primary holder is provided at its end face, which cooperates with the secondary holder, with portions which extend crosswise with respect to one another around an unprofiled central region at mutually displaced sides so as to be parallel at respective mutually opposite sides, and which have respective flanks. The corresponding end face of the replaceable secondary holder is contoured in a corresponding or complementary manner. Due to the cooperation of the juxtaposed flanks of the profiled portions of the primary holder with those of the secondary holder, there is attached a self-centering effect with a highly repeatable degree of accuracy, and with a positive engagement in the direction of three mutually perpendicular axes, so that axial and radial bending forces as well as torques can be transmitted without any oscillations. The primary and secondary holder are clamped to one another by either a manually operable or an automated clamping arrangement.

A clamping device for connecting machine spindles or basic holders with tool holders or tools for machining comprises two partable damping elements (38,40;138,140) which are radially displaceably mounted in a holder (24;124) anchored in the machine spindle (10,110) or the basic holder and in the parted position engage behind an encircling clamping shoulder inside the tool holder (12;112). The clamping elements (38,40;138,140) extend crosswise to the longitudinal direction of the tool holder (12;112) and, at their lateral outer ends, have clamping surfaces (48,50,52,54;148,150,152,154) disposed such that all four clamping surfaces of the two clamping elements (38,40;138,140) are each distributed over the periphery of the clamping shoulder at angular distances of approximately 90.degree..

A process for adjusting an effective tool diameter D and an effective tilt angle .alpha. of a cutting tool to a stipulated tool diameter and a stipulated tilt angle, respectively. The cutting tool includes a cutting blade disposed on a shaft and defining a cutting point and a cutting edge tilted by the effective tilt angle with respect to a rotational axis of the shaft, and a guide element disposed on the shaft opposite the cutting blade and defining a guide point and a guide line, the cutting point and the guide point being disposed on a cutting plane of the cutting tool. The process includes the steps of utilizing a measurement arrangement including a camera and a measurement slide supporting the camera; moving the measurement arrangement for acquiring the guide point on the camera; and moving the measurement arrangement to the cutting point for acquiring the cutting point on the camera. The process further includes the steps of determining the effective tool diameter D by determining the distance travelled by the measurement slide between the guide point and the cutting point; determining the effective tilt angle .alpha. by acquiring the tilt angle on the camera; converting the effective tilt angle .alpha. into an effective tilt diameter D1; adjusting the effective tool diameter D to the stipulated tool diameter; and adjusting the effective tilt angle .alpha. to the stipulated tilt angle by adjusting the effective tilt diameter D1 to a stipulated tilt diameter.
