Founded in 1903 by George H. Burke as Burke Machinery Co., the firm moved to Conneaut, OH in 1910 and changed names in 1911 to Burke Machine Tool Co. It was taken over in 1948 by Smith & Mills Co.

They were also known as U.S.-Burke Machine Tool Co. Better known for their inexpensive Millrite milling machines, they also made an early machinists' drill press.


From 1916-12-28 Canadian Machinery

Parts for Burke milling machines were formerly available from D. C. Morrison Co., but no longer.

  • State records show the name Burke Machine Tool Co. was registered on 24 October 1911 and de-registered on 30 December 1948.

    Machine Tool Firm Acquired—Houdaille Industries, Inc., has purchased the assets and inventory of the Cincinnati Mfg. Corp., also known as U. S. Burke Machine Tool Co. The acquisition will be operated as a division of Houdaille with the former owner, S. Charles Straus, as the divisional general manager. U. S. Burke Machine Tool Co. manufactures a broad line of milling machines ranging in size from hand and bench models to numerically-controlled machines sold to industry and vocational and technical training schools.
