Lovett Eames began as a sawmill operation in 1844. In the 1850s he turned to hub and spoke production and began manufacturing and selling machinery of his own invention. He died in 1863. One of his sons, Gardner T. Eames, became a professional inventor and co-founded what became Atlas Press Co.
