An example of this chuck is seen on a hub borer marked, "Dole's Patent July 25, 1854, Manufactured only by Dole & Silver, Col'a (Columbiana) Co, Ohio".

Dole Salem, OH From the 24 July 1858 issue of Scientific American: "This invention provides a drill stock which will receive two sizes of augers and drive a large auger with a low speed and a small auger with a fast speed. The arrangement is very compact, and with it the expense of having two separate boring machine, on to bore light and the over heavy work, is avoided. We view the invention as one of merit and utility."

26,822 Jan. 10, 1860 Tool for cutting round tenons L. A. Dole Salem, OH The 21 January 1860 of Scientific American had this to say: "This is a very neat and simple tool. The end of the piece of wood on which a round tenon is to be cut is inserted into a hollow tube which has at its front end several radial rests and a radial cutter. The tool is revolved, and the stick being fed forward on the rests, has a perfectly round lesion formed on it by the cutter, this length of the tenon being gaged by means of an adjustable stop at the rear end of the tube."
