The company was founded on March 15, 1918 by Anton Panhans in Klösterle near Karlsbad in what is now the Czech Republic.
The company traded in tools and saws for woodworking. Just two years later, Panhans himself began manufacturing machine parts.

In 1953, Panhans relocated its headquartes to Sigmaringen, West Germany. Construction of a new production facility and start of machine production. Development of the APA band saw blade guide, which continues to set standards for blade guides.

Company founder Anton Panhans died shortly before reaching the age of 80 in 1974. The company is continued by the next generation.

In 1993, the PANHANS company celebrates its 75th anniversary. The company now employs 230 people.

In 2010, Reinhold Beck takes over the PANHANS brand. From November, PANHANS machines are produced and sold by the newly founded HOKUBEMA GmbH. Band saws of the Agazzani brand, which was also taken over, are also integrated into the HOKUBEMA program and manufactured in Sigmaringen.
