In 1933, Friedrich Zimmermann founded the company F. Zimmermann in the Swabian town of Denkendorf near Stuttgart. Initially and until the mid-1950s, the company was not yet involved with portal milling machines and horizontal machining centers. Instead, the focus at that time was on electrical installation and contract work in mechanical production.
Since the development of the first machine in 1956, more and more Zimmermann machines have been used in model making companies. Convinced of the good quality, the industry has come to rely on the milling machines, band saws and grinding machines.
Rudolf Gänzle took over 100% of the business shares in 1994. Zimmermann developed into a niche supplier for portal milling machines. And not only in Germany. Over the years, F. Zimmermann GmbH has become one of the world market leaders in the field of conventional model making machines, with branch offices in Germany, China and the USA.
2013, the company headquarters were moved from Denkendorf into the neighbouring city of Neuhausen.
Today, the company is particularly well known for its portal milling machines and horizontal machining centers.
