In 1964, G. Lubitz and K.-H. Oberdick founded an armature winding shop for electric motors in Beckum (Westphalia) and shortly afterwards also offered repair services. Three years later, the company was transformed from “Oberkick und Lubitz GmbH” into “Elektra-Beckum Lubitz & Co.”. The production of own machines (double grinders and circular table saws) started in 1969.

The company moved to Meppen in 1975, the production range was extended. Elektra Beckum was known for their small to medium sized band saws, table saws and combined jointers/planers.

After the death of the founder Lubitz in 1991, the company was transformed into a public limited company ("Elektra Beckum AG") with DM 216 million in sales and 553 employees. In 1999, Metabo takes over Elektra Beckum.

MP System GmbH takes over the Meppen site and the license for the Elektra Beckum brand in 2010 but has to file for bankruptcy three years later. Subsequently, the Elektra Beckum brand is purchased by Purkart Systemkomponenten GmbH & Co. KG, based in Niederschmiedeberg, Saxony. The Meppen factory is closed down and the product range reduced. The remainig product range is produced in Saxony.
