Nathan H. Baldwin produced a treadle-driven lathe in the mid-1870s. He may have succeeded S. K. Baldwin, who was from the same town and is known to have manufactured lathes in the late 1860s.

- Listed in the EAIA Directory of American Toolmakers. It says, "Baldwin is known to have made machinist's tools and a pedal driven lathe. He patented a sawfiler's vise/clamp in 1871 and is assumed to have made that."
- Mentioned in the April 1872 issue of Manufacturer & Builder as a maker of a foot lathe with attachments for screw threading, eccentric turning, etc.
- 1875-04-17 Scientific American classified ad: "Improved Foot Lathes. Small Engine Lathes, Small Gear Cutters, Hand Planers for metal, Ball Turning Machines, Slide Rests, Foot Scroll Saws for light, and heavy work, Small Power Scroll Saws, Foot Circular Saw Machines.
