in 1873 A. Kipp, Jr., & Co. was manufacturing a small portable steam engine. Abraham Kipp, Jr. (1840-1920) obtained several patents related to steam engines and boilers. Based on patent records this business was probably active between at least 1868 to 1874 but corroborating data is very sparse.
We also found information on a kitchen combination tool, the "Amazon Meat Mangle" that was made by this firm. The known examples are marked "PAT. PENDING" but no such patent has been found.

- From 1873-4 Transactions of the New-York State Agricultural Society, report on the awards granted at the 1873 New York State Fair, "A. Kipp, Jr., & Co., Sing Sing, N. Y. Kipp engine to attach to boiler, two and a half horse power, 2 by 2 feet, $200; certificate of merit."
- From a 2003 issue of Journal of Antiques: "'Amazon' Meat Mangle. As a three-part multi-combo tool, we stipulated to the chopping blade as a mini-chopper and ice chipper, and the blunt end as a tack hammer. We’re now confirming the third function: meat tenderizer as delineated by the 49 knife-edged puncturing spikes. Manufactured by A. Kipp, Jr. & Co., Ossining, N.Y. First time have we ever been aware of 'Jr.' in a company name for an early 1900s piece." It is likely that the writer underestimated the age of this item.
