Charles E. Gee had a shop at the corner of Fletcher Street and Dufferin Street in Lowell. A native of Marlow, NH, Gee moved to Lowell in about 1871, and, starting about 1875, manufactured woodworking machinery, including lathes and tablesaws.

In 1887 Gee bought out Wm. Robinson, manufacturer of worsted machinery supplies; that company had been founded 1860 by Robinson. Gee subsequently manufactured the worsted machinery supplies along with the woodworking machinery line. The last data point we have on Gee is from 1891, but the data is admittedly very sparse.

Information Sources

  • We learned of this maker from a wood-framed tablesaw seen on eBay. The name was difficult to read, so for a few years he was listed in this Index as "C. F. Gee".
  • Listed in the 1891 book, Inland Massachusetts Illustrated. This source provided Gee's correct name, gave approximate years of operation, and gave the connection to Robinson. The book has a handsome illustration of a Gee tablesaw.
