Internal-Combustion Engine
|
Fred W. Spacke |
Indianapolis, Marion County, IN |
Abstract:
Our invention relates to internal combustion engines, especially for motorcycles, and has for its object the provision of a multi-cylinder engine which combines a maximum of strength with a minimum of weight and space and operates with a minimum of friction.
Claim:
In an internal combustion engine, the
combination of inlet and exhaust valves, a cam shaft for operating said valves, said cam shaft having a separate cam for each valve, the cams having cam faces on the sides, said lcam faces facing part toward one end of the axis of the cam shaft and part toward the other end thereof. |

Internal-Combustion Engine
|
John D. Lowe |
Indianapolis, Marion County, IN |
Abstract:
In the operation of explosion engines, especially motorcycle engines, great difficulty is frequently experienced by reason of the dust and grit which settle on the exposed parts of the valve-operating mechanism, and especially on the valve sterns and associated parts at the top of the engine cylinder, this dust and grit making it impossible to produce proper and lasting lubrication so that sticking of the parts is frequent.
Claim:
In an internal combustion engine, the combination of a valve chamber, an inlet valve opening thereinto and provided with a stem, a cap-piece provided with a fuel supply passage and with a lubricant chamber into which the valve stein projects, means located in said lubricant chamber for transmitting motion to said valve stem, and a removable cover for said lubricant chamber. |

Internal Combustion Engine
|
Fred W. Spacke |
Indianapolis, Marion County, IN |
This application is a division of our copending application, filed September 8, 1911. The division filed December 11, 1912.
Abstract:
It is the object of our invention to simplify and cheapen, and at the same time to avoid certain disadvantages common in the construction of internal combustion motors, especially motorcycle motors.
Claim:
In an internal combustion engine,, the combination with a cylinder, piston, crank shaft, engine valves, and magneto, of a crankcase, a cap for said crankcase having an integral shaft chamber, a shaft mounted in said shaft chamber and driving said magneto and operating said valves, and gearing between said last named shaft and the crank shaft. |

Inlet-Valve for Internal-Combustion Engines
|
William Spacke |
Indianapolis, Marion County, IN |
Abstract:
The object of my invention is to produce an effective means for supporting the inlet valve casing of an internal combustion engine in such manner that the inlet valve may be readily accessible.
Claim:
The cominiiation -with an engine and a valve there for, of a clamping ring for said valve provided with an inwardly projected flange, a casing member arranged to cover th valve, a 11(1a casing clamp comprising a hook-shaped meniber projected through the casing member and engaging the inwardly projected flange of the clamping ring said hook- shaped member having a threaded outer end and a nut threaded thereon and engaging the casing. |

Compression Space Annex for Internal Combustion Engine
|
Dalmar T. Brownlee |
Indianapolis, Marion County, IN |
Abstract:
In many types of internal combustion engines, especially those which are used in motorcycles, the compression is very high and difficulty is therefore experienced in starting such motors. Many operators attempt to avoid this difficulty by opening the exhaust valves and spinning the motor very fast until there is momentum enough in the flywheel to carry the motor over its high compression stroke, This operation however, is one which requires considerable skill and strength.
The object of our present invention is to avoid the difficulties outlined above by providing an internal combustion engine with an additional compression space which may be connected with or disconnected from the combustion chamber so that, when connected with the combustion chamber, the degree of compression while materially lessened, 3so nevertheless remains sufficient to make possible, without expenditure of great force, the ignition of the preliminary charges.
Claim:
As an article of manufacture, a compression-space annex for internal, combustion engines comprising a threaded stem having a valve seat formed at its lower end, a valve movably mounted in said stem and normally seated in said valve seat, at compression chamber carried by said stem and communicating with the bore thereof,a spring for normally holding said valve to its seat, and a cam arranged to operate said said valve to open the same. |

Abstract:
Our invention relates to a crankshaft and to flywheel construction, as for engines, and has for its object the provision of a crankshaft and flywheels which shall be at once strong and compact, easily assembled, well lubricated, and balanced in operation.
Claim:
A crank shaft comprising two alined stub shafts provided with disks at their adjacent ends, the adjacent faces of said disks having aligned eccentric projections substantially parallel to the shaft axis, said projections being bored out taperingly with the large end in each projection toward the other projection, and a double ended doubly tapered bolt fitting in the bores of the projections and provided with nuts whereby the two parts of the shaft may be clamped together.
