From 1902 and probably earlier, this company was a distributor of large woodworking machinery. Early on, the full name was the John D. Eby Machinery Co. By the 1950s they were the Eby Machine Co., Inc. All the ads and machine labels we have seen use "The Eby Machinery Co." name.

The company was assigned a 1931 patent for a box-making machine, so they were perhaps a manufacturer as well. It is also possible that their box-making machine was manufactured by another company under contract.

An index to correspondence of the F. A. Hihn Co.—customers of Eby Machinery—is online, courtesy of the University of California at Santa Cruz. This correspondence provides some interesting hints on Eby's products and services: the complete equipment for a large sawmill, including steam engines, Shimer matcher heads, dado heads, miter cutters, Hall & Brown sticker, bandsaw filers, "Hill's Steam Nigger" (a machine for loading logs onto the sawmill), planing machinery, and even a smokestack.

Court records show that Eby Machinery Co., Inc., was liquidated in January 1955 and operated as a individual proprietorship; the owners during this transition were Joseph Stern and Nina Stern.
