In the formation of an oil hole drill, the step of fanning a generally cylindrical blank having a plurality of spirally arranged angularly spaced flutes in the outer surface thereof and a correspondingly spirally arranged groove in at least, one of the lands between a pair of said flutes, then working at least a portion of the b surface layer of said land first in a generally circumferential direction toward the center of said groove and then radially of said blank while the walls of said groove are totally unsupported, said groove being of sufficient depth whereby the said ; working of said surface layer closes the open side of said groove without completely filling said groove, that portion of said surface thus worked being exclusive of the cutting edge of said land whereby said portion of said land thus worked provides a relief for said drill behind said cutting edge.

In the manufacture of an oil hole twist drill from a cylindrical blank, the steps of forming a pair of longitudinally extending grooves in an exterior surface of said blank, one of said grooves being deeper and narrower than the other and said other of said grooves being disposed equally on, both sides thereof and shaped to form a bead along each side of the first-mentioned groove, and then simultaneously operating upon said beads to displace them toward one another and into contacting and sealing engagement with respect to each other whereby to close the outer side of said first-mentioned groove.

A limiting countersink drive including, in combination, a cylindrical spindle having an enlarged tool engaging head at one end and an annular slot near the drive end, a tubular body extending over said spindle in abutting relation with said head having a fine thread on its outer surface and an axially disposed slot through its wall, bearing means disposed between said body and spindle, an adjusting sleeve disposed over said spindle and body having fine serrations at its lower end, a stop collar having an internal thread mated with the thread on the body, serrations on the upper end of the stop collar engageable with the serrations on said adjusting sleeve, a set-screw in said adjusting sleeve having a dog point projecting into the slot in the body for permitting relative longitudinal movement therewith and preventing relative rotation therebetween, a thrust collar on said spindle, and a spring between said thrust collar and said adjusting sleeve for urging the sleeve downwardly for maintaining the serrations in engaged adjusted position and for retracting said spindle.

A deburring tool including, in combination, a body having a slot of substantial length on the axis thereof, an aperture extending through the bottom of the slot adjacent to one end thereof, a deburring blade pivoted in the slot having a projecting cutting end extending from the bottom through the aperture to the outside of the body, and a longitudinally extending spring strip having one end fixedly supported within the slot with the opposite end engaging the end of the blade opposite to that having the projecting end, the end of said spring engaging said blade exerting a force thereon substantially perpendicular to the axis of said tool.
